In a joint work session held in Santiago on April 12, the two institutions sought opportunities for collaboration to create, promote and implement strategies aimed at sustainable economic and social development. At the centre of the discussions were proposals for joint efforts that tackle the major themes of the Rio Earth Summit +20 (20-22 June 2012), such as sustainable development and the green economy.

The Planet Earth Institute announced the appointment of two new Trustees, on the 12th March at the Dorchester Hotel in London, Lord Paul Boateng and Prof. Sir Christopher Edwards. The Chairman, Mr. Álvaro Sobrinho announced the PEI’s expansion plan with the opening of new offices in New York, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Geneva and New Delhi.

The Centre of Excellence in Applied Sciences for Sustainability in Africa (CESSAF) held its first full stakeholders meeting on Monday 5th March, in Luanda, Angola.


The CESSAF will be founded on guiding principles of investigating sustainability through a combination of environmental, social and economical aspects. All courses will have hands on, practical assignments alongside theoretical components and teachings.
